Peoria Riverfront Museum’s Giant Screen Theater Debuts Latest Technology, New Dual Laser Projectors, 21-Speaker Upgraded Sound, Feb. 1

PEORIA, Ill. (1 Feb 2024) — Featuring the largest film society screen in the nation at 54 feet tall by 72 feet wide, the Peoria Riverfront Museum’s Giant Screen Theater officially debuts the latest projection and sound technology, Feb. 1. Lifelike dual 4K 36,000-lumen laser projection and 21-speaker 65,000-watt surround sound provide visitors with an unsurpassed, immersive viewing experience.

New ultra-bright dual Barco 3-DLP 36,000 lumen 4K laser video projectors deliver exceptionally rich color and depth for lifelike 2D and 3D content. The twin projectors, dedicated to right and left vision fields, allow true 3D projection.

The upgraded Dolby 21-speaker surround sound system packs more than 65,000 watts of powerful, balanced, crystal-clear sound aided by JBL speakers, Crown amplifiers, Biamp and Dolby Cinema processing, Shure wireless microphones, Alchemy video servers, and Crestron automation.

Lifelike projection and sound technology bring a new era of film screening to the museum, which uses its 194-seat theater to engage visitors with film, through programs such as Marc Eliot’s Art of Film featuring the greatest Hollywood and international films of all time, immersive award-winning documentaries like Dinosaurs of Antarctica, family friendly films every Saturday morning with the museum’s Kids Pix series, and a blockbuster feature film every Saturday night. The theater also features a stage for multi-media presentations and live performances.

“The Peoria Riverfront Museum’s Giant Screen Theater is currently branded as the largest screen in America home to a film society,” said John Morris, museum president and CEO. “This state-of-the-art technical upgrade recently completed by Pearl Technology added 36,000-lumen laser light engines to the dual 3D-capable projectors as well as a new 21-speaker, best-of-its-kind Dolby surround sound audio.”

“There is no finer film experience,” Morris said.

The Giant Screen Theater is open Tuesday through Sunday. Ticket prices vary. Giant Screen Theater schedule and tickets can be found at peoriariverfrontgst.org.
