Peoria Riverfront Museums Rucker Family Science Teacher Program Provides Free Education Supplies

PEORIA, Ill., January 6, 2025—The Peoria Riverfront Museum announces its new Rucker Family Science Teacher Program that provides free educational science supplies and curricula to teachers in the museums Every Student Initiative program, including all Peoria Public Schools classrooms.

The program, sponsored by the Rucker Family Science Grant Endowment Fund, was sparked by the Rucker Familys passion for science education and the knowledge that teaching science can benefit from supplies that might be outside of classroom budgets.

The objective of the Rucker Family donation is to enhance science education, said Mike Rucker, founder of the Rucker Family Science Grant Endowment Fund. This is a great way to do that. Getting both teachers and students involved is the best way to learn.

Through the Rucker Family Science Teacher Program, Every Student Initiative school science teachers can apply online for the science kit. The kit includes materials and lesson plans designed to assist the teaching of science concepts tied to Next Generation Science Standards and related to exhibitions on view at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.

Inspired by the museums DURYEA: Americas First Car Company and upcoming BUILT: American Custom Car Culture exhibitions, the 2025 science kit is designed for grades 4-8 and covers energy, engineering design, motion, and stability. Students can practice engineering and problem-solving in the classroom by building cars powered by rubber bands.

Teachers who apply through the online form by February 15, 2025, will be given full consideration. Kits will be awarded by the end of February 2025.
