PEORIA, Ill., May 13, 2024 – Grammy Award-winning Metropolitan Opera baritone Nathan Gunn returns to the Peoria Riverfront Museum on June 1, 8 p.m. for Nathan Gunn and Friends: A Stroll Down Broadway, a special performance featuring songs from the golden era of Broadway musical theater. Gunn will be accompanied by soprano Lisa Buhelos and his wife and artistic partner Julie Jordan Gunn on the piano.

The event spotlights classic musical theater works by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Jerome Kern, Jason Robert Brown, Jeanine Tesori, and Adam Guettel. It represents the continuation of the Peoria Riverfront Museums MUSEUM+ Program initiative, generously supported by Linda Beth and Ed Sutkowski. The initiative is designed to enhance the museums cultural repertoire and bring more performances to Peoria.

Nathan and Julie Jordan Gunn have been appointed guest curators of performance at the Peoria Riverfront Museum. They reside in Champaign, Ill., where they are professors and co-directors of the Lyric Theatre at the University of Illinois.

“The Peoria Riverfront Museum is honored to have the brilliant Nathan and Julie Gunn as our guest curators for performance to help lead our pioneering MUSEUM+ program. The art, science, history, and achievement mission of the museum is greatly uplifted by music and performance. We’ve only just begun,” said Peoria Riverfront Museum President and CEO John Morris.

Nathan Gunn previously served as the museum’s special curator for Nathan Gunn: The Art of Opera, October 7, 2022, to April 17, 2023, organizing the first gallery exhibition of the largest collection of opera posters known to exist from the museum's permanent collection.

Tickets for Nathan Gunn and Friends: A Stroll Down Broadway cost $25 for adults ($20 members), $15 for students and children ($12 members), and $15 for Visionary Society Members. The event takes place June 1, 8 p.m., on the museums Sun Plaza.

Nathan Gunn and Friends: A Stroll Down Broadway is sponsored by Linda Beth and Ed Sutkowski, Visionary Society, and Illinois Arts Council Agency. More information on the event can be found at peoriariverfrontmuseum.org.
