Peoria Riverfront Museum Joins Bloomberg Philanthropies Digital Accelerator for Arts and Culture Program and the Bloomberg Connects App

PEORIA, Ill., April 1, 2025—The Peoria Riverfront Museum announced today it has been accepted to the Digital Accelerator for Arts and Culture program, which will support the development of the new Peoria Riverfront Museum website and the revitalization of its digital gateway to museum patrons. The museum also announced that it is joining the Bloomberg Connects app, which offers free digital guides to more than 700 cultural organizations around the world.

The Digital Accelerator program supports leadership development and infrastructure investment that builds audiences, increases fundraising, drives revenue, delivers dynamic programming, and helps the museum work more efficiently and effectively in support of its strategic objectives. The program also helps develop best practices to share across a network of nonprofit cultural organizations.

The three main goals for the new museum website are to:

● Increase web-generated revenue, including online giving and ticket sales

● Enhance engagement through focused interest areas, such as fine and folk art, decoys, science and technology, sports, history, and many others

Help museum patrons monitor personalized individual achievement through the museum’s Achievement Passport points program.

The Peoria Riverfront Museum is on target to exceed 3 million digital engagements (defined as interactions across various digital platforms, including websites, social media, and newsletters) this fiscal year, a record for the museum. Five years ago, on March 16, 2020, the museum launched the Virtual Peoria Riverfront Museum at the start of the pandemic shutdown, which became a transformational investment.

“The museum is as much a media enterprise as it is an in-person Enterprise now, and acceptance into this program by Bloomberg Philanthropies, a leading philanthropy supporting technology innovations for the cultural sector, is an important affirmation of all the work we've been doing – and can grow in the future,” said John D. Morris, Peoria Riverfront Museum president and CEO.

The museum has also joined the Bloomberg Connects arts and culture app, which offers free digital guides to cultural organizations worldwide. Bloomberg Connects now includes an interactive digital guide for the museum’s collection, allowing immediate access to exclusive expert-curated custom museum content that visitors at the museum can use to enhance their experience. For those who cannot visit the museum in person, the guide allows them to access the collection online and learn more.

The Bloomberg Connects app platform is part of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ longstanding commitment to supporting digital innovation in the arts. Bloomberg Connects makes it easy to access and engage with arts and culture from mobile devices when visiting in person or anytime from anywhere. With dynamic content exclusive to each partner organization, the app provides a range of features, including video, audio, and text; expert commentary; and way-finding maps. Follow Bloomberg Connects on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads for updates on new guide launches, exhibit highlights, and more.

The Bloomberg Connects app is available for download from Google Play or the App Store or by scanning the QR code on the Peoria Riverfront Museum website here.
